DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME begins Sunday at 2am. We "spring head" by turning the clocks ahead one (1) hour. Also, don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detector and your carbon monoxide detector.
An area of low pressure continues to track slowly northward along the New Jersey coast toward New York City. It'll drag a significant amount of moisture northward along with it. As a result, we're looking at a heavy precipitation potential - upwards of 1" to 3" of rain - across the southern counties heading into tonight and Sunday. That is why Flood Watches are posted for the Central and Southern portion of the viewing area.
We're also continuing to see mixed precipitation outside the Hudson and Mohawl Valleys. As a result, the aforementioned Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings have been posted. Some locations above 1,000 feet could see 6" to 12" of snow & sleet by Sunday evening.
The wind will also be a problem tonight into Sunday. The wind will continue to pick up at speeds of 15 to 30 miles per hour tonight into Sunday with higher gusts being possible across the hills and mountains. In fact, mentioned above, a Wind Advisory is posted for the higher terrain and the Mohawk Valley for wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour. We've already had a report of some tree damage and powerlines being knocked down in the vicinity of Great Barrington as the result of an estimated wind gust of 55 miles per hour earlier Saturday evening.
The storm slowly moves away as we head through out Monday with pleasant sunshine and a pleasant, March breeze for Tuesday into St. Patty's Day on Wednesday.
